Each New Year I ponder, “what lies ahead for me? What unexpected and exciting places and adventures will this year bring?” Life should be filled with excitement and adventure – just the way I like it! 2015 was no different. Although 2015 was also greatly colored by my son’s life – he selected a college to attend, graduated from high school, we threw a big party, and in August he left for college. The whole year was spent in anticipation, celebration, preparation, and finally resignation of these events. After dropping off my son at his college, I began to learn to live without his daily happy presence in my life. It was, and continues to be, a big adjustment. But through it all, I had the love and support of my husband, family, and friends – and I had my photography – which provided some really fun moments along the way. I was grateful!
My first big job of 2015 was the official photographer for the Colliers International 2015 Kick Off Meeting. There were about 400+ people in attendance who traveled to Santa Clara from many of the western states. What made this extra fun for them and me was it was at Levi Stadium – the 49ers’ Football Stadium – where this year’s Super Bowl took place. The Keynote speaker was Shawn Achor, whom is a dynamic speaker on the subject of “happiness.” He has spoke at numerous engagements around the world on the subject, including speaking at the Pentagon and on The Oprah Winfrey Show. His book in called, The Happiness Advantage. According to Shawn’s research, happy employees are 37% more productive! His presentation gave the audience solid steps to become more happy. See – I can photograph plus listen to the lecture at the same time!
What a magnificent stadium! I enjoyed having full access to the stadium! Now I can say I have stood on the grass at the Bay Area’s two major pro-sport venues – I’m talking about AT&T Park in San Francisco. Home of the Giants! I photographed a NetApp event at AT&T Park in 2014.
2015 also brought me a new client in Sonoma County. It was a privilege to photograph the Ledson Hotel, which is located on the plaza in downtown Sonoma. The Ledson Hotel is a boutique hotel which has six elegant guest rooms, a wine bar, which serves as the “in town” tasting room for their Ledson Winery, and a restaurant that serves food and wine pairings. I can attest that the accommodations, the wine, and the food are all suburb!
In the fall of 2015 I began to work with another exciting client called Jack Rose Libation House, which is a craft cocktail bar that also serves food. They are located in Monte Sereno. They were in need of new photography for a new website. I met the owners of Jack Rose Libation House while photographing for South Bay Accent Magazine in 2014. They were included in the feature article of that issue as one of the “Best Craft Cocktail Bars in the South Bay.” Jack Rose Libation House is named after Monte Sereno’s very own historical celebrity – John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck lived in Monte Sereno from 1936-38, where he finished writing The Grapes of Wrath and wrote Of Mice and Men. As many literary artists of the time, Steinbeck loved his cocktails – his favorite was the Jack Rose. A beautiful concoction of Apple Jack Brandy, fresh grenadine, and lemon juice. Absolutely delicious!!
I continue to feel blessed by my chosen profession and excited for my future with my camera around my neck. What will I point my lens at this year?! Your guess is as good as mine.
Thank you for continuing to visit my blog, reading the articles, enjoying the photography, and leaving me your comments of gratitude. It always makes my day!
