Who doesn’t like a good burger?! I mean a really good burger. I bet if I asked just about anyone, a burger would be one of their top five favorite foods!
Everyone has their favorite way they like their burgers topped with ingredients. When we barbeque burgers at home, I like my burger with grilled onions, bacon, pepper jack, sliced avocado, a gorgeous slice of a beefsteak tomato, and lettuce, served on a Kaiser roll. I also make this amazing sauce, which is made from a base of mayonnaise, bbq sauce, chopped jalapenos and onion and a few other ingredients. OMG! Of course it is too big to eat and a huge mess! But it is divine!
Last fall I photographed some very beautiful burgers and hotdogs, with San Jose’s very own famous executive chef, Jim Stump, at his latest restaurant creation, Stumpy’s.
Last year, Jim opened a different kind of eatery from his previous fine dining restaurants: Los Gatos Brewing, AP Stump’s, and The Table. Stumpy’s specializes in good ol’ fashioned casual American fare – burgers and dogs! Stumpy’s doesn’t create the “get it anywhere” kind of burgers and dogs. No they don’t. Stumpy’s menu focuses on unique creations that are made from high quality ingredients that are homemade and use meats, poultry, and fish that are all natural. Their burger and hotdog toppings are Jim’s recipes which are lovingly crafted by the Stumpy’s kitchen crew, such as chili con carne, relish, roasted peppers and onions, coleslaw, pickles, sauerkraut, tomato jam, pico de gallo, and tomatillo salsa.
Stumpy’s also serves up some awesome garlic fries and tater tots. I have never seen tatter tots served like this! Stumpy’s also serves one of my big weaknesses – soft serve chocolate dipped ice cream cones! Stumpy’s has a very convenient take-out window and outdoor seating with umbrellas. Stumpy’s is always busy at lunch. It is a fun place to gather and meet friends.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jim on our photo shoot. Jim has been in the business a very long time and has participated in a number of food photography photo shoots along his journey as a chef and was a pleasure to work with. These images from this shoot were used on Stumpy’s website.
And, just down Lincoln Avenue, you will find Jim Stump’s other restaurant, The Table, which Jim opened in 2012. At The Table, Jim focuses on beautifully crafted delicious creations that are made with the freshest seasonal ingredients. The menu constantly changes due to what is in season. The Table has a full bar where they hand craft specialty cocktails, as well as possess an extensive wine list and beers on tap. The restaurant is wildly successful in Willow Glen.
If you are hungry and find yourself in Willow Glen in San Jose and have a hankering for a really good hamburger or hot dog – look no further! Check out Stumpy’s!
